Loughborough Model Flying Club

• The Club has existed in various forms and flown model aircraft from the present general location since the late 1940’s. It became Loughborough Model Flying Club in March 1980 and is the only club of its type in the Borough of Charnwood.                
• Membership is available to anyone - there isn’t any age or physical limitation to becoming a member. The Sport of model aircraft building and flying is non-seasonal, unlike some other sports, so you can maximise the return on your investment by participating throughout the whole year.
• The majority of formal business in running the Club is conducted openly such that all members are able to voice their opinions. Whilst it is not unknown for some topics to generate very lively comment and strong opinions, I regard these open Meetings as the most beneficial way in which to ensure the Club fairly represents the views of membership. This not only applies to the December, Annual General Meeting, but also the meetings held on the first Monday of each month. So why not come along to one of the meetings and let us know your views, as well as taking the opportunity to talk to other members about the more interesting aspects of being a member of LMFC i.e. building and flying miniature aircraft.
• We are also known for our respected annual Helicopter Fly-in (normally held in September) and Swap Meet (usually held in December) and this is again a reflection of the manner in which members approach our sport and Club activities.
• Presently we fly at Derby Road Playing Fields, off the A6 road between Loughborough and Hathern. The site is owned by Charnwood Borough Council with whom we have an annual rental agreement for use of this facility. The whole site covers an area of approximately 50 acres and is available for our use seven days a week, from 10am until dusk, 356 days a year.
• The LMFC membership fee covers one year running beginning January to end December, although reductions are generally available for members joining late in the year. • As a member of LMFC you are required to have Third Party Public and Products Liability insurance which can be readily obtained through the Club (refer to Safety and Legal Controls, refer to the bottom of this page).
